Chiropractic was developed in 1895 and has since then helped millions of people achieve a higher level of health. Chiropractic literally means "to practice with hands" which is how most chiropractors still practice today. To understand how chiropractic works, first it helps to have a brief anatomy lesson. How does the body work? The main control of all body parts (including muscles, organs, glands and pain sensors) is the brain and the nerve system. The brain ALWAYS sends signals down the spinal cord where nerves branch out to the rest of the body like roots of a tree. In order for the body to function at 100%, it must have perfect flow from the brain to the body. In fact, the definition of HEALTH is a state of optimal physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. You need ALL parts functioning at 100% to be 100% healthy! Why is my back important? The spine, or vertebral column, consists of 24 movable vertebrae which sit on the tailbone and pelvis. These bones PROTECT AND SUPPORT the nerve system. So if you do not take care of your spine, it cannot protect your nerves! In fact, it can actually put PRESSURE ON THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. Pressure on the nerve system prevents that perfect flow of information between the brain and body. This interruption in information will cause poor function and eventually disease. Now, what was Chiropractic again? So to keep your spine aligned for proper nerve supply, you need to care for the spine. And that is what CHIROPRACTIC DOES! CHIROPPRACTIC is the correction of subluxation, or spinal misalignments, to restore proper supply to the nerves and make your body work better! |
